Our Sustainable Planet

Our Sustainable Planet

The "Planet" section of the Green Tourism Accreditation focuses on the energy aspect of sustainable tourism. It assesses how efficient our water systems are, the monitoring of waste, the managing of carbon emissions, and chemical usage throughout Tyddyn Isaf.

Energy Efficiency Icon Energy Efficient Systems

We have invested in a range of energy-efficient systems, including LED lighting, low-flow water fixtures, and high-efficiency heating and cooling systems. This helps to reduce our energy consumption and carbon footprint.

Renewable Energy Icon Renewable Energy

We generate a significant amount of energy from our solar panels, which helps to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and supports the development of a more sustainable energy system.

We use the electricity supplied from our solar system to help supply communal areas of Tyddyn Isaf with clean, green energy. Our system supports our power input into our main office building, gym, business centre, shop, take-away and coffee shop, as well as some of the toilet blocks across the park. They also help to power our sewage treatment plant.

waterdrop icon Water Conservation

We are committed to conserving water and have implemented a range of measures to reduce our water usage, such as installing low-flow shower heads and taps, key-fob shower activation, harvesting rainwater, and using drought-resistant plants in our landscaping. We also regularly monitor water usage so that we can rapidly detect the presence of leaks.

Recycling Icon Waste Reduction & Management

Our large recycling station includes bins that are dedicated to specific recyclable materials i.e., glass, cardboard, plastic and metal. Our large Bergmann Compactor is fed with general waste, and is hand-sorted on a picking line where any misplaced recyclable materials will be diverted from the waste.

We try to reuse materials wherever possible such as utilising wood cuttings from hazel that grows amongst the hedgerows, as a plant support for the newly seeded flora. We also recycle corrugated and flat cardboard packaging from our deliveries and use it within our compost which is then used to help our plants thrive.

Our bread-to-order system is also instrumental in minimising food waste here at Tyddyn Isaf. By preparing the exact quantity of ordered bread and pastry products, we ensure that there is no excess, contributing to a significant reduction in food waste.

Scooter Icon Sustainable Transport

In our commitment to environmental responsibility, we encourage our guests to travel with only one car and suggest utilising public transportation or exploring the beautiful landscapes of Anglesey through cycling. To enhance this experience, we collaborate with the local businesses, Green Lane Bike Tours, offering guided bike tours and bike/e-bike rentals, providing our guests with eco-friendly alternatives.

To further support sustainable practices, we have installed two electric charging points on our park, accessible to both guests and visitors. This eliminates the need for our guests to travel long distances for recharging.

Tyddyn Isaf is situated by Anglesey's coastal footpath and we always recommend and encourage our guests to walk the footpath to access the closest town and village rather than drive their car.

Tree Icon Wildlife Biodiversity

We are committed to preserving our local wildlife and biodiversity. Over the years we have created many wildlife habitats on site, including bird boxes, bug hotels, hibernaculums and wildflower meadows. These habitats provide a home for a wide range of local wildlife, including birds, insects, and small mammals.

We also work closely with local conservation organisations to protect and preserve the local natural habitats, such as woodlands, hedgerows, and wetlands.

We encourage visitors to respect these habitats and to follow responsible outdoor recreation practices.

Chemical Structure Icon Minimizing Chemical Use

We are committed to minimising our use of chemicals and pesticides and have implemented a range of organic and natural pest control methods. This helps to reduce our impact on the local environment and promotes a healthier ecosystem.

We use Evans Green Tick products for our cleaning supplies, ensuring that we only use chemical products with the least environmental impact. We also encourage our touring guests to use our recommended toilet fluid cleaner, Top & Tail. This eco-friendly product is formaldehyde-free and available for purchase from our main shop.
